"Check backup settings" reported by Action Center after switching from Windows 7 Backup and Restore to File History

I performed an upgrade from Microsoft Windows 7 Professional x64 to Microsoft Windows 8 Enterprise x64. The Windows 7 installation had been using Windows Backup and Restore Control Panel set to run on a schedule. After upgrading to Windows 8, the schedule was turned off and File History was activated. Unfortunately, Action Center now reports a warning under Maintenance to "Check backup settings." Also under Maintenance it reports that File History is Running.

How can the "Check backup settings" warning in Action Center be cleared now that File History is in use in place of Windows 7 Backup and Restore?

Test System: Microsoft Windows 8 Enterprise x64 Version 6.2.9200

Hi

Windows 8 is designed to migrate the Backup and Restore settings from from Windows 7.

If you are sure that backup has been turned off, you can tell Action Center to not display messages for that component.

Open Action Center.

On the left side menu, select Change Action Center settings.

In the Maintenence section, remove the check mark from Windows Backup.

Regards

How can I be sure that backup have been turned off? I only found an option to turn off the schedule from within the "Windows 7 File Recovery" Control Panel. Is it possible for Backup to be more "off" than that?

It seems odd that it should be necessary to manually disable the warnings for Windows Backup from Action Center. The Maintenance section includes checkboxes for both "Windows Backup" and "File History." Since these two services are mutually exclusive shouldn't the messages be mutually exclusive as well?

I had the same question.  What I did was to delete the Windows 7 file Backup key in the registry.  That disabled completely the Backup setup.

Delete Key:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsBackup

I have been unable to find a solution to this issue. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsBackup isn't even in my registry.

I am having the same problem.

"Check backup settings

Windows cannot find the disk or network location where your backups are being saved."

When I click the "Options" button, I get a the screen prompting to "Create a system image."

I upgraded from Windows 7 => Windows 8 => Now Windows 8.1.

I would like to disable all Windows 7 backup settings completely and for these notifications to go away.

The resolution for this issue is listed in the TechNet Wiki under Troubleshooting: Clearing the Windows 8.1 Action Center Backup Message. The solution is to uncheck the box for Windows Backup in the action center as this feature has been removed from Windows 8.1 and replaced by the File History feature.
